We start the Hinterland Tour at the majestic Purlingbrook Falls in Springbrook National Park. The park is part of the World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforest which was created by a shield volcano over 100 km in diameter, 23 million years ago.
From there we move onto a stunning 4 km return walk through eucalyptus forests, sub tropical rainforest, numerous waterfalls and a few house-sized boulders for good measure. This is one of the most enjoyable walks in the area and fantastic for photography.
The aptly named ” Best of all Lookout ” is the next stop with stunning views of Mt. Warning and Northern NSW, which also takes in the Antarctic Beech Trees which date back 2 to 3000 years.
Our last destination is Natural Bridge, a short 1 km circuit through the Gondwana Rainforest takes you to a picturesque cave where the above water flow has eroded away the ceiling over 1000’s of years. This has created a small waterfall right through the ceiling of the cave making for a fantastic photo.
